Preserving Latvian-Brazilian memory
Between July and August 2022, CCLNO carried out an essential project for preserving Latvian-Brazilian history. With the participation of Latvian anthropologist Tom Pavils, the team traveled more than 3,600 km and conducted 73 interviews in cities such as São Paulo, Vārpa, Nova Odessa, Curitiba and Ijuí.
The interviews were held in Latvian or Portuguese, according to each interviewee's preference, and revealed both similarities and differences in the journeys of Latvians in Brazil, especially in the period after World War II.
Food stood out as one of the main ways cultural heritage has been preserved, with recipes and traditional dishes passed down through generations. The next step will be transcribing and organizing the material for broad distribution.
